I was volunteering at Freegeek today (it’s one of the ways I try to stay sane) and at the thrift store they had a very clean looking Pioneer SX-727 that someone had donated. It was labeled “it works” and had been reduced to $40 from $60. With my volunteer discount I got it for $20. this unit was made in 1972, just a year after I was. It looks awesome and sounds decent through my 80’s era AR 8bxi’s.
It’s no home theater extravaganza (got one of those upstairs anyway), but for listening to NPR and playing MP3’s through the Squeezebox 2 (also pictured) it’s pleasing me greatly.
