Joel, an original Pinball Lizard, took my call this afternoon. His type 1 flipper opto board uses 5-pin optos instead of 4-pin optos. I didn't catch his entire explanation, but the gist is that the 5 pin optos (used in later games) are grounded better and less subject to sending uncertain signals. I ordered a pair, even though only one board is giving me trouble.
As long as I had him on the phone, I also ordered the clock board which was already high on my list. PB Liz also offers a trough proximity sensor (and it's also on my list), but it's a little expensive and I don't seem to need it...yet.
Joel will ship my stuff when he's back from vacation. Can't wait!
